MarketingSherpa > Bad News: Search Engine Optimization Firm Growth Screeches to a Near Halt

The marketers who had used in-house SEO resources saw an average 73% lift in overall site traffic.

The marketers who outsourced SEO to an expert saw an average 110% lift in overall site traffic.

There’s a lot of interesting stats in this article.
They say there was little growth in SEO firms this past year. That’s not what I saw in my company or in my friends’ companies.

Possibly you’ve seen the countless links across the SageRock site to our seminar. I teach a class at Cleveland State that’s a lot of fun. I thought I’d offer our own seminar right here at SageRock headquarters.

If you would like to know what Google is looking for in determining how it ranks sites, consider checking out this event. It’s November 16 in Akron. We’ll have coffee, juice, muffins and who knows what else.

Double Your Price

Hi, I’m Sage Lewis, the president of SageRock.com. I have recently heard someone say, “Take whatever rate you charge as a search engine optimization firm, and double it”. That is the world of search engine optimization these days, it is crazy. Pretty much every optimizer I talk to these days has a waiting list, they pick and choose clients, and they don’t do RFPs. It is a really hot market to be in. I don’t think it will always be that way, I mean, the word will get out and there will be more and more people will do it. If you are looking for search engine optimization, if you are looking to hire one, for your staff, or looking to outsource, be aware that this is the market right now. It is hard to find people who have availability on their list, and the people that do are expensive. Our hour to hour rate right now is $250 an hour, and people don’t bat an eye at that number. Is it always going to be that way? I don’t know it will be interesting to see. I certainly know that there are always high end products in the world. Mercedes and Lexus, they both have four wheels and six cylinders like all of the other cars on the road. I imagine that is the case with search engine optimizers, there will always be high end people, but I imagine the market will eventually get saturated and it won’t be as intense a situation, as it is now. Have a great day.

Using Lynx On Windows XP

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006

Understanding what the engines see is really important. But it’s also important to know how accessible a site is for non-traditional browsers.

Lynx is the answer for all of this. It’s a straight text browser. The problem is that the versions I’ve seen before were all DOS command line. Well, I just came across a nice Windows XP version here:
http://csant.info/lynx.htm
You can download it at the bottom of that page from the link:
Lynx 2.8.5rel.1 installer (1.68MB)

Here’s a good page of beginner commands:

The one that you need to know is, when Lynx opens, to type in a web address, the command is ‘g’ and then the address.

And if you are really into it, here’s a good page that goes into more detail:

eMergent Marketing Gets Bought By Brulant

Monday, October 2nd, 2006

Brulant Partners with eMergent Marketing for Search Engine Optimization

I’m friends with Paul Elliot… co-owner of eMergent Marketing with Suzanne Galvez. He is an extremely hard worker and does great work.

The press release doesn’t discuss the terms of the sale. I know that eMergent was growing at a crazy rate. They had a lot of impressive clients. Those are really the only things I know.

I hope it was a great deal for them. They deserve it.

Best wishes Paul and Suzanne!
