We Took The WordPress Plunge

After many happy years at Blogger.com, we have made the big move and transfered everything into WordPress.

We have no bad feelings at all with Blogger. In fact, we still recommend it to many of our clients.

But we’ve been testing WordPress with some of our personal blogs and loved all of the features.

With the new blog be sure to keep an eye out for updated categories over there on the left. And we also plan on some video blogging as well.

So, there’s a lot of fun ahead. Feel free to drop a comment whenever the urge strikes.

Cheers!

Sage

Did you set-up a 301 redirect from the old Blogger version? If so, how intuitive was the process? Any insight would be appreciated.

    Hi Joel,

I moved the WordPress blog directly over this one. The url structure is different enough that I don’t think I could make a universal change.
As an example, this url is this:
    http://www.sagerock.com/weblog/2006/02/06/we-took-the-wordpress-plunge
The blogger url would be someithing like:
    http://www.sagerock.com/weblog/2006/we-took-the-wordpress.htm

It cut off the name of the page at a certain point. So that was pretty random.

But I’m going to watch my error logs on a daily basis and 301 them to the new page.
The code for my .htaccess page will have an entry like this:
    redirect 301 /weblog/2006/we-took-the-wordpress.htm http://www.sagerock.com/weblog/2006/02/06/we-took-the-wordpress-plunge

I’ll be able to redirect the important pages. Then I’ve got my custom 404 error page that will scoop up everybody else.

That’s the plan, anyway. Let me know if I can help further.

Good move, Sage. I think you will like it.

I did the same thing back in November (actually, I hired someone to make the transition for me, because I wanted it done right, not half-a**ed like I would have done it).

I am extremely happy with WordPress. Like you, no bad feelings about Blogger. WordPress simply offers more of the features we have come to expect of business blogs these days.

    Best,
    Anita

Thanks for writing, Anita. I am really happy with the move. There are a lot of benefits that I’m finding with WordPress.
Randall, I’m just using the WordPress tool. It’s hosted right here at sagerock.com/weblog
