Branding Confusion - FindWhat now MIVA

Saturday, June 25th, 2005

I just got this notice:

This is an automated notice to let you know that your MIVA account balance is running low. You recently have been spending approximately $0.01 per day; your current balance is $0.25.

I didn’t even know I had a Miva account. Internet companies are just ridiculous with this kind of thing. A rebranding is much more expensive and complicated than sending out automated messages that my “MIVA” account is running low. This is corporate egotism to the point of idiocy.

Google AdWords Site-targeted campaigns

Thursday, June 16th, 2005

When you run a site-targeted AdWords campaign, you set the maximum price you want to pay for every thousand impressions your ad gets on that site.

Google is continually experimenting with new ways for you to advertise. If you are up for experimentation, you might give this a try.

Meta Tags for Blogger Based Sites

Saturday, June 11th, 2005

I’ve just come across an interesting example of how to create dynamic meta tags for your Blogger-based blog. Go forth and do this for your blog. It certainly can’t hurt.

Oh, and don’t forget to create a dynamic title tag for your blog too. This is that code:

Google Sitemaps - The Simpler Way

Saturday, June 11th, 2005

Last week we blogged about the Google sitemap creator here:
Google Blog webmaster friendly

I finally got around to trying it out. Let me say that it is not the easiest thing in the world. This is because you need to be running Python and have shell access. Those are not two items that are readily available… especially in a shared hosting environment.

Well, I’m happy to report that there is a better way:
Google Sitemaps - The Simpler Way
It is very easy to do. While I haven’t yet submitted my sitemap to Google yet, the creation part was a breeze.

So, if you’re into trying this new feature out with Google check out the above site.

He has actually made small typo in his html code. So his xml creator text area box doesn’t work. You can submit your urls in the text box below and it will take you to his site and will give you the code to insert into your sitemap.xml file.

(You are just missing a > in this line: <p align="center" I’ll take this off of my site when ever you would like. Just email me and let me know when to do so. Thanx for the sweet script!)

Goggle, Yahoo Seen Boosted by Ad Surge

Friday, June 10th, 2005

A report from Merrill Lynch & Co. projects search advertising will generate about $5.6 billion this year — then more than double to $12.3 billion by 2009.

There continues to be a lot left in the search field as far as revenue goes. There is so much opportunity in this industry and most of it is going to small and medium sized businesses. Once the big businesses figure this out, there’s going to be a lot more money flowing.

FindWhat to Rebrand as Miva

Tuesday, June 7th, 2005

It gets hard to keep up with the name changes in our industry. This name swapping is probably going to become a stereotype problem if it keeps happening.

Acquisitions of Miva, Espotting, and Comet Systems were all completed in 2004.

Friday, June 3rd, 2005

I haven’t tried this yet. But Google is experimenting with a sitemap creator that you can submit to them and they will crawl. I’ll give it a try and see what happens…
