Here’s an interesting tool that you might enjoy checking out:

Search Term Research and Keyword Research at Priority Submit

It is a key phrase analyisis tool put out by Trellian. A friend of mine, David Warmuz, from there emailed me to check it out. (He’s taught me how to make great Australian pizza).

First, it’s free. So there’s no harm in giving it a try. But it has some interesting features that WordTracker doesn’t currently have. For example, it has a variety of ‘Advanced Search Syntax’ capabilities such as this:
related:keyword

Returns a list of related keywords. For example related:shoes may return results like:
shoes
boots
sneakers
nike
reebok
runners
…

There are several others in that syntax area that look interesting too.

Another report I found facinating was:

I’ve just spent a couple minutes there. But if you are in need of, or would like another key phrase research tool, check this out.

There are seasonal trends for all kinds of phrases. Even the phrase: ‘web marketing’.

So, if you would like another research tool in your arsenal, give this a try. I think you might like it.

For some reason I knew this article was going to be by Kevin Lee before I even opened it. I tend to really be drawn to his stuff. This is a good article about setting baselines and benchmarking.

You can’t be happy unless you know what you are trying to accomplish. He writes: “To set up an internal baseline, measure your critical statistics. Use whatever statistics are part of your business or marketing objectives. Marketers typically include conversion percentage, order volume, and an ROI metric (e.g., cost per order, cost per lead, or revenue per dollar spent). ”

For some reason these are things that I see done in the direct marketing circles but now always in the marketing departments. You will have a much easier time deciding what is going to be in next year’s marketing plan if you do these tests. And you’ll have a much easier time getting a bigger budget.

Benchmarking and Baselines in SEM

Are you a WebPosition Gold fan? If so, here’s a good review of Version 3 that just came out:

You probably have seen it, it’s one of the hyperlinks after the description of each listing in the body listings in Google. Each listing (unless someone has not permitted Google to do so) has these two links: Cached - Similar pages

The “Cached” link is handy for a couple different reasons. Sometimes a site is temporarily down or their server is slow. The Cached link will come to the rescue.

Sometimes you are looking for a detail on a page that turns out to be 5 miles long. Using the cached link will highlight the words you searched for in Google.

But wait, there’s more. I am often guilty of not looking at the paragraph Google places above the Cached page. Check it out sometime. The newest information they have included is when they retrieved the page. This way you can see how fresh their data is. You can also use it to see when the last time was that Google looked at your site. Pretty handy stuff.

There’s some other kind of interesting things in there too.
