E-Commerce News: Yahoo Goes for Overture in $1.6B Deal
That was a lot more money than I thought Yahoo would try to get Overture for. I think that’s what Yahoo investors felt too, as that stock went down. But Overture stock owners couldn’t have been more pleased.

LookSmart, who went from being a directory like Yahoo, to something more like a pay per click engine, used to be an all-you-can-eat joint for $0.15 per click.

Well, that’s changed. Now you have to pick a category. This is what you pay per category:

Auto ($0.23 CPC)
Books, Magazines, CDs, and DVDs ($0.23 CPC)
Auctions, Affiliate Malls & Coupon Sites ($0.23 CPC)
People & Relationships ($0.30 CPC)
Business Services ($0.30 CPC)
Professional/Consumer Services ($0.30 CPC)
Moving and Real Estate ($0.30 CPC)
Paid-Download Services ($0.30 CPC)
Retail ($0.30 CPC)
Ticket Services ($0.30 CPC)
Travel ($0.30 CPC)
Education ($0.40 CPC)
Finance/Insurance ($0.75 CPC)
Jobs & Careers ($0.40 CPC)
Health Products ($0.40 CPC)
Credit/Bad Debt ($0.75 CPC)
Online Gaming ($0.75 CPC)
Communications/Internet Hosting ($0.75 CPC)

Overture’s average cost per click is around $0.34. I think LookSmart wants to be a little closer to that action.

This site is getting a lot of attention right now, and consequently, it is pretty slow to come up.

However, the Open Government Information Awareness site puts some pretty powerful strength into the common man’s hand. The basic principle for the site is to allow people to closely follow the lives of politicians. Additionally, anyone will be able to anonymously add information to each politician’s file.

This is going to be interesting because there will be no moderation as to what information is posted. If you know something about a politician you will be able to freely post it to the site. It’s probably going to get really personal and probably ugly.

But ever since the Pentagon’s “Terrorism Information Awareness” site, that allows the government to track any individual who potentially could be a terrorist threat, it’s kind of nice to know that we now have the power to turn the tables a bit.
