Spidering Search Engine, Algorithmic Search Engine, or Spider

Definition:

Spidering search engines develop their results purely through computer-generated programs with little to no human intervention. The search results are ranked and organized by automated criteria called an algorithm.

The code of a site's pages is collected by a spider and that data is taken back to the search engine databases. At that point the data is analyzed and eventually inserted into the results of the search engine. All of this, again, is done through automated computer programs.
