Definition:

Also known as web marketing, search engine marketing or search marketing, this is a term that usually refers to the entire industry of placing websites in top 10-30 positions on major search engines. Sometimes it refers only to the process of optimizing a site’s meta tags and content to rank well on spidering search engines. Spidering Search Engines – Engines that use proprietary software to search the Internet and review submitted websites. The software that scours the page for relevance is called a “spider.” This software reads text and follows links, sorts the information based on proprietary algorithms, and then places it in a list with most relevant (as it sees it) in the top of the list and least relevant at the bottom of the list.
