Today I wanted to spend a little time telling you how I’ve gotten here and why I think all of this is so important.

First, a little background:

When I started SageRock in 1999 I had no money to market. I couldn’t buy advertisements or banner ads. So, I did the only thing I could do… I began writing articles.

I wrote articles on the topic I knew: search engine optimization.

This tactic worked like a charm. It got the word out about SageRock and it also positioned our company as a leading authority in search engine optimization.

I found it incredibly easy to make a sale after someone had read my articles. They basically became sold on my expertise. It was then just a matter of figuring out if they could afford my services and if search engine optimization was right for them.

Incidentally, if you are thinking of different ways to market your company, I highly recommend this strategy. It’s incredibly powerful.

It’s so powerful, that it’s exactly what I do today… 10 years later.
