Google Confirms Higher Click Through Rate As Result of Ads Position To Free Listings
We changed the maximum width, decreasing the spacing between the search results and the right hand side ads on wide screen. With that it increased the click-through rate on the right hand side ads and I think we did that some time around the second week in August.
Yahoo! will exit Search Submit at the end of 2009.
Google Gives a Thumbs-up to Reputation Management
Instead, you can try to reduce its visibility in the search results by proactively publishing useful, positive information about yourself or your business. If you can get stuff that you want people to see to outperform the stuff you don’t want them to see, you’ll be able to reduce the amount of harm that that negative or embarrassing content can do to your reputation.
Sorry, Yahoo, You DO Index The Meta Keywords Tag
The test was simple. I placed a unique word in the meta keywords tag on the home page of Search Engine Land. This word — xcvteuflsowkldlslkslklsk — generated no results on Yahoo when I looked earlier this week. Today, when I searched, it brought back the Search Engine Land home page. Thus, Yahoo indeed indexes the content of that tag.

We’ve been telling people for a long time that they shouldn’t focus on PageRank so much; many site owners seem to think it’s the most important metric for them to track, which is simply not true. We removed it because we felt it was silly to tell people not to think about it, but then to show them the data, implying that they should look at it.

This morning, LinkedIn reached the milestone of 50 million members. CEO Jeff Weiner says that about 50% of the users are from the U.S. and the other half from the rest of the world.
Previous ad insertions had been static, where the ads had to be placed into the content before hand, the new technology allows the ads to be inserted on the fly.
The data shows that U.S. search spend flat year-over-year but up 10% quarter-over-quarter
