I’m not going to write much here because I don’t want you to waste time on what I have to say.

I want to make sure you have watched all the top 10 videos on Youtube for 2011.

If you are:

A marketer (offline or online)

In advertising of any sort.

A sales person.

Then you need to watch these videos.

The future (and a big portion of the present) has nothing to do with ABC, NBC, CBS or a single cable station. The network of the future is Youtube.

Here are the 10 most viewed videos of 2011:

Top 10 Most Viewed:

Rebecca Black – Friday (OFFICIAL VIDEO) - <a href="http://youtu.be/kfVsfOSbJY0"title="http://youtu.be/kfVsfOSbJY0" dir="ltr" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://youtu.be/kfVsfOSbJY0
Ultimate Dog Tease - <a href="http://youtu.be/nGeKSiCQkPw"title="http://youtu.be/nGeKSiCQkPw" dir="ltr" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://youtu.be/nGeKSiCQkPw
Jack Sparrow (feat. Michael Bolton) - <a href="http://youtu.be/GI6CfKcMhjY"title="http://youtu.be/GI6CfKcMhjY" dir="ltr" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://youtu.be/GI6CfKcMhjY
Talking Twin Babies – OFFICIAL VIDEO - <a href="http://youtu.be/_JmA2ClUvUY"title="http://youtu.be/_JmA2ClUvUY" dir="ltr" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://youtu.be/_JmA2ClUvUY
Nyan Cat [original] - <a href="http://youtu.be/QH2-TGUlwu4"title="http://youtu.be/QH2-TGUlwu4" dir="ltr" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://youtu.be/QH2-TGUlwu4
Look At Me Now – Chris Brown ft. Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes (Cover by @KarminMusic) - <a href="http://youtu.be/khCokQt--l4"title="http://youtu.be/khCokQt--l4" dir="ltr" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://youtu.be/khCokQt–l4
The Creep (feat. Nicki Minaj & John Waters) - <a href="http://youtu.be/tLPZmPaHme0"title="http://youtu.be/tLPZmPaHme0" dir="ltr" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://youtu.be/tLPZmPaHme0
Maria Aragon – Born This Way (Cover) by Lady Gaga
The Force: Volkswagen Commercial - <a href="http://youtu.be/R55e-uHQna0"title="http://youtu.be/R55e-uHQna0" dir="ltr" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://youtu.be/R55e-uHQna0
Cat mom hugs baby kitten - <a href="http://youtu.be/Vw4KVoEVcr0"title="http://youtu.be/Vw4KVoEVcr0" dir="ltr" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://youtu.be/Vw4KVoEVcr0

The reason I want you to watch these is because I want you to experience them.

Which ones do you like? Why do you like them?

Which ones don’t you like? Why? And more importantly, ask yourself why you think they got so many views. (Like Nyan Cat)

Read a few of the comments to get a feeling for what others think about the video.

Everyone of these is wildly different that anything you will see on traditional television. But yet huge numbers of people love them. Why is that? Why do people love them so much? And why won’t you see these on traditional TV?

I want you to watch these like you are going to an art museum. Challenge yourself. Push your perspective.

This matters because if you can understand what is popular on Youtube you will be better able to engage people online more meaningfully.

If you don’t get it you are going to be pushed to the side.

If you want to talk to me about these videos and your impression of them leave a comment below or lets do a Google Hangout.

This is a really comprehensive social media monitoring tool that gives you a ton of capabilities.

You can slice and dice your social media profiles in many, many ways. Plus you get all of your social media content downloaded to your own database.

The only “trick” to ThinkUp is that it is self hosted. So you have to install it and run it on your own server. But other than that it’s a whole bunch of awesome.

I just got through checking out the YouTube Creator Playbook presentation.

It’s 70 slides of goodness.

I’m embarrassed to say I’m not doing many of the things they suggest. Areas I need work on are:

A compelling first 15 seconds.

Calls to Action

Regular schedule & frequency (I really liked how they suggested you should promote your schedule.)

Tent-pole programming. Duh! Why don’t I do content around big Web marketing events?

Guest stars.

Actually, I’m just going to stop. I need to do all these things better.

Check this playbook out. It truly is the YouTube Creator Playbook. It’s just great stuff.

I was going to embed it here. But it will look better if you just go over to their site.

CLICK HERE FOR THE YOUTUBE CREATOR PLAYBOOK.

Also, they have some cool checklists. They are located on these slides:

Slide 30 – Programming and Producing Checklist
Slide 53 – Publishing and Optimization Checklist
Slide 67 – Community & Social Media Checklist
Slide 70 – Video Upload Checklist

www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTibHpcf0Q8

I just updated my personal blog, SageLewis.com, with the new WordPress 3.2.

The biggest noticeable difference is the full screen option while editing posts and pages. It gives you a completely clean environment in which to write. It’s something that I am definitely going to be experimenting with.

There are also a variety of other less dramatic, yet important, feature rollouts.

The administrative user interface has been redesigned. There is an extended admin bar which gives you more links to control the site.

But the technical aspects which you don’t see on the front end are very important to be aware of.

WordPress 3.2 requires PHP 5.2.4 or greater and MySQL 5.0.15 or greater. So you are definitely going to want to make sure that your web host is up-to-date with those things. Upgrading to WordPress 3.2 could be fairly catastrophic I suspect if you are running PHP 4.

They also no longer support Internet Explorer 6. And they are starting the End-of-life (EOL) cycle for Internet Explorer 7.

It also has some page load enhancements. This should make your WordPress environment move a little bit faster.

So there’s a lot of really good things they’ve done here. Just be sure that your web hosting environment can support these new updates.

Otherwise, go get WordPress 3.2. I think you’re going to love it!

You can see the complete list of features here:

2 different families of the SageRock team have kids that go to Spring Garden.

So, it seemed only reasonable that SageRock would participate in a small way in the Auction.

SageRock purchased 3 items at the auction:

Miss Julie’s Class Project: Earth, Wind & Fire

The Teacher Appreciation donation to help the teachers fund ongoing learning for themselves.

A Sculpture by P.R. Miller

The final item is the one that should make the biggest impact at the SageRock Building and in the surrounding community.

P.R. Miller is a renowned Akron artist. He is known as “The Grizzled Wizard.” He takes found objects from dumpsters and landfills and recycles them into art.

We are extremely excited to have the opportunity to feature his work at SageRock and, in doing so, also supporting a great school, Spring Garden Waldorf.

As we work with P.R. Miller we will keep you updated on what kind of art he plans for the space.

After my in-depth overview on <a href="http://www.sagerock.com/blog/youtube-insight-advanced/"title="Advanced YouTube Insight Online Video Analytics" >YouTube video analytics, hopefully most of you understand that YouTube isn’t the be all, end all of video on the Internet. In fact, as much time as I usually spend finding video <del>that would make my mom blush</del> on YouTube, I’ve found that I’m spending more time at other places, like Vimeo, Revver, and Break.com.

Nothing is inherently wrong with YouTube. There are just different audiences for different outlets. Spend less than a minute on Vimeo and tell me you aren’t dealing with a completely different group of publishers and viewers.

Don’t Put All Your Eggs in One Basket

Let’s look at a real life example.. I’ll call this TubeMogul vs …

The latest M.I.A. video “Born Free” was banned by YouTube “ostensibly for its graphic content.” If you search hard enough you’ll probably still find it there (while their censors play a round of Whac-A-Mole), but what is most interesting is that its artistic nature seems much more suited for a site like Vimeo and indeed the original upload/comments to that platform remain.

Furthermore? It’s received more than 2.4 million views there due in part to it’s prominent ranking in <a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=new+mia+video"rel="nofollow" target="_blank">key Google SERPs

Clear enough, right? You wouldn’t want to only rank in Google, but not Yahoo, Bing, AOL, or Ask. You’d be throwing away 30 to 40 percent of your audience!

Is that what you want to do? Of course not.

Same rules apply when dealing with online video. It’s not just the lone destination that you’ve uploaded your video to — it’s all the different places that could showcase your video to multiple audiences.

Clients have told me numerous times that they’ve put up their videos on YouTube, and that’s that. But what if you went so far as to not only upload to YouTube, but also a ton of other destination sites?

TubeMogul offers a single upload, which is then broadcast to a chosen array of video sites that you have an account with. One upload, multiple video site destinations. If you haven’t yet, test drive one of their free accounts.

Basic Video Analytics

Something that you should be mindful of as you disseminate your videos across the web is how you will track those videos. While logging into multiple accounts is feasible, it’s also tedious, time consuming, and the metrics between one publisher and another are often handled quite differently, making uniformity for reporting difficult. Luckily, TubeMogul has a variety of options available with its basic and advanced analytics packages that this tutorial covers.

The standard free online video analytics gives you quick, exportable data at a glance to see your performance across all the channels that you’ve uploaded to.

You can then drill down by any publisher to see what videos are being measured and then drill into each video to see a variety of metrics across time.

By focusing on the key metrics that are uniform across publishers, TubeMogul makes reporting and understanding your online video reach quick and painless.

But Wait, There’s More!

You want something a bit more in-depth? How about a lot more in-depth? Well, In-Play, TubeMogul’s advanced analytics has you covered.

InPlay unlocks a bevy of in-depth detail across publishers, including:

Viewed time and attention span.

Quality of your video streams from the visitor’s POV.

Embedding details.

Geolocation.

Advertising effectiveness.

With these online video analytics at your fingertips, you can quickly and easily measure the success of your campaigns. The days of just uploading to YouTube and seeing how many stars you got are now things of the past.
