The 5 most popular pay per click engines

No matter how you look at it, search engines drive traffic to sites. Depending on the source, anywhere from 50% to 80% of people find new sites through search engines. If you are not using a search engine / internet marketing strategy of some sort you are missing out on visitors that are actively looking for sites like yours. But as you may know, getting good positioning on search engines is a lot easier said than done. It often involves constant analysis, page modification, and fairly comprehensive understanding of how each engine works. So if getting involved with search engines is both crucial and, at the same time extremely difficult, what is the solution?

One solution is to seriously consider hiring a professional to help you with your internet marketing strategy. A good strategist will give you a much better return on your marketing dollar than virtually any other online marketing pursuit. However, this is not the cheapest solution. Another option is to seriously look into pay per click engines. These engines allow you to bid on positions for targeted key phrases. Positions can cost you as little as 1 cent per click. With these engines, you can have any position for any targeted phrase you wish - as long as you agree to pay the per click fee. Getting involved with these engines takes little technical prowess and not too much cash either.

There are many pay per click engines. Unfortunately, the majority of them are not going to bring you a lot of traffic. But the plus side is you only end up paying for the traffic you do receive. So experimenting by spending a little money on the less popular engines will still eventually bring you the traffic you agreed to buy. You can see many pay per click engines at http://www.payperclicksearchengines.com/

Here is a quick look at five pay per click engines that you might really want to consider.

First, www.Goto.com is the big kid on the block. The reason Goto is so powerful these days is because they are giving sponsored results to many major engines.

Depending on the position you elect to pay for, you will find yourself also on engines such as: AltaVista, Netscape Search, AOL Search, Ask Jeeves, Direct Hit, HotBot, Go.com, Lycos, NBCi, Search.com and other metacrawlers.

Getting involved with Goto.com now costs $.05 for a minimum bid and $25 each month. It costs $50 to open an account.

Second, consider: http://www.findwhat.com
According to a FindWhat.com April press release they received over 13 million click throughs in the fourth quarter of 2000. In addition to this very healthy traffic you are likely to get the same phrases as Goto.com for significantly less money.

Starting a FindWhat.com account only costs $25 to get started.

Third, look into www.bay9.com
This engine would be considered to be in the top three of pay per click engines for drawing traffic. It has a nice interface for adding and updating your listings. And you also will find some pretty good bargains here as well.

You can open an account for $25.

At fourth position, consider www.7search.com
The traffic amount falls significantly at this point. But you still will probably find some worthwhile traffic with smartly bid positions. Additionally, 7search.com licenses its technology to hundreds of other search engines. The non-paid results you find here come from their own spidering engine. So, if nothing else, be sure to list your site here for free.

You can open an account with a minimum of $25.

Finally, look into www.sprinks.com
This is the About.com pay per click engine. Phrases are still very cheap. For example, the term 'marketing' will cost you $1.77 at Goto.com but only $0.53 at Sprinks.com. The majority of total Sprinks clicks occur on the top 5 bids on GuideSites at About.com.

There is a $100 non-refundable initial fee applied towards clicks.

This is just the tip of the pay per click iceberg. But this is a good way to get started. These engines are a great first step in a good internet marketing strategy. It's easy and pretty inexpensive. And you aren't hoping that someone might click on your banner or newsletter ad as your impressions are adding up. If you haven't looked into these or other pay per click engines, spend some time on this avenue. You are likely going to be glad you did.
